Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do I Need A Referral To Book An Appointment?
No, you do not need a referral to see an Osteopathic Manual Practitioner.
-
Are Osteopathic Treatments Covered By Insurance?
Osteopathic treatments are generally covered by insurance. Please check your specific policy for details about coverage for Osteopathy. As we do not directly bill your insurance company, receipts are provided for you to submit for reimbursement. We do not process or complete paperwork associated with WSIB, disability, or MVA claims, though you may still be eligible to receive and benefit from osteopathic treatment if you are under the care of another provider for these purposes.
-
What Can I Expect At My First Appointment?
During an initial appointment, we will go through your health history, discuss all areas you are concerned about, perform an osteopathic assessment and provide a full treatment. We will then discuss a treatment plan moving forward and provide any tips to help you support your body through the course of osteopathic care. You may feel some mild soreness or changes in your body in the days following treatment; this is your body adjusting to the positive changes we made during treatment. You may be advised to go for a gentle walk after treatment, and avoid excessively strenuous activity for 1-2 days. The treatment doesn’t end when you leave the office, your body will continue to adjust for 3-4 days following your appointment. You should expect to book a follow-up appointment about 1-2 weeks after your initial treatment.
-
What Should I Wear To My Appointment?
Please wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move around in (i.e. doesn’t restrict your full range of movement). There is a washroom available for changing if you choose to bring a change of clothes with you.
-
How Often Do I Need To Come In?
This depends on what is happening with your body and what we observe during the assessment and treatment. We personalize our approach to each patient, so everyone’s treatment plan will look a bit different. Generally, we see patients once a week for 2-3 treatments and then are able to space treatments out more as we make progress. Ultimately, the goal is get you feeling great as quickly as possible so you spend less time in our office and more time doing what you love!
